The Aspire One runs a customized Linux operating system called Linpus Linux Lite, which is basically a stripped-down HP Pavilion DV2000 battery version of Fedora. The user experience is divided into four areas, where each one has a preview of icons that represent an application or Web link.

AMD, however, does have the advantage in the graphics department—as long as we’re talking about budget desktop replacements. It scored just 1,865 on our 3DMark test, thousands of points behind the HP dv7t (2043CL) (5,868) and HP HDX18t (5,171). It was similarly HP HSTNN-OB42 Battery crushed by these two when we tried to run high end games like Crysis and World in Conflict. Keep in mind, though, that the dv7t (2043CL) is a $1,000 system, while the HP HDX18t costs $2,000.

As usual, I treated this system as if it were my own Windows Vista laptop. OpenOffice 2.3 recognized all of my Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files. However, it wasn’t able to read the XML format (.docx) in Office 2007. The system handled PDF files, an assortment of image HP HSTNN-OB31 Battery extensions, movie files, and zip files beautifully.

The HP HSTNN-IB42 Battery score of 3 hours 40 minutes on MobileMark 2007 was as impressive as that of the HP dv7-3183cl (3:36); both of them have the same batteries (73WHr), though different processors.
