The keyboard features surprisingly large keys with plenty of room between them

The system comes with a pair of stereo earbuds, a remote control, and a protective Dell Inspiron 1545 Battery sleeve. The one-year warranty with 24/7 phone support is standard.

Above the keyboard are three quick-launch buttons for the camera, e-mail (defaulting to Outlook Express), and home (which launches your Web browser). When we hit the DELL Studio 1735 Battery camera button, however, we got a little message at the bottom of the screen that said, “Camera is unplug.”

When we pressed it a second time, it said, “Camera is plugging in.” Between the DELL Studio 1535 Battery Webcam quality and this launch quirk, we don’t see this button getting used much.

The input devices alone, including a black, backlit keyboard and a huge, 4.5-inch-diagonal touch pad, are worth the price of SQU-413 admission. The keyboard features surprisingly large keys with plenty of room between them, and it even includes a numeric keypad.

Plus, somehow, enough room is left over for one of the largest laptop touch pads we’ve seen. The large touch pad supports the standard Synaptics two-finger thinkpad x61 battery gestures for zooming, scrolling, and rotating images.

They keys and the pad are both gloriously responsive, and thanks to an innovative cooling system that draws air through the front and blows hot air out two rear thinkpad t60 battery exhausts, the palm rests stay cool throughout any computing session.

While the comfortable Chiclet keyboard lacks backlighting, it does offer an extra vertical row of quick-launch keys along the left edge, as well as a42-a6 function keys that double as media controls.

Above the keyboard are touch-sensitive multimedia controls and the X305’s power switch, along with a pair of Harman Kardon acer aspire 3000 battery speakers, which—combined with a second pair of speakers embedded in the wrist rest and a subwoofer mounted on the bottom of the chassis, provide top-notch audio output with a nice dose of bass response.

In keeping with the color theme, red LEDs and red backlit media controls light up the SQU-412 upper portion of the keyboard deck. The lower third of the pad integrates the mouse buttons; just press down the left or right sides to make selections.

But the LED-backlit, 1,280×800-pixel panel on the XT2 is exceedingly bright and crisp, with vibrant colors that pop. It has a wide viewing angle, making it appropriate for pa3634u presentations around a small conference table.
