give the black tab on the hard drive cage a little tug to the right

To remove the back panel, you simply remove the six tiny screws on the back and gently pull off the panel. You’ll then remove two more screws from the metal hard drive cage. (You’ll see an empty hole, which looks like you’re missing a screw, but that screw actually is one that comes through the panel.)

Next, give the black tab on the hard drive cage a little tug to the right, and the cage comes out. You then slide the cage with the hard drive installed back into the Neutrino, and replace the two screws you removed.

While the comfortable Chiclet keyboard lacks backlighting, it does offer an extra vertical row of quick-launch keys along the left edge, as well as function keys that double as media controls.

Other budget notebooks we’ve seen have dedicated media-player controls, independent buttons for switching off wireless radios, and a healthy assortment of input/output options, but the Inspiron 1501 falls very short in this area.

If having extras like these (and a few more configuration options) is important to you, we recommend stepping up to Dell’s Inspiron E1505. For a couple of hundred dollars more, you get slightly improved specs and lots of extras.

As with other business-oriented notebooks, the ThinkPad T400s includes both a pointing stick and a touch pad, so users in both camps will be happy HP Compaq 6510B Battery. The roomy touch pad, in particular, is worthy of note, featuring a subtly pebbled surface that makes mousing comfortable.

That’s less of an issue, however, given all the ways you have to control system functions: with the touch pad and mouse buttons, the included stylus, or simply your finger.

The tx2z incorporates HP’s multitouch technology: The capacitive touch screen supports not just simple actions like tapping on a menu or dialog box but more-complex two-finger gestures HP Compaq 6715b Battery for scrolling, zooming, rotating images, and even launching applications.

Perhaps the most striking thing about this netbook isn’t what you see on the outside, but rather what’s inside. The desktop’s 10 whimsical wallpaper options display the Disney logo, various classic Disney characters, and the words “It’s a Magical World.”

Many of the desktop icons have been redesigned around a Disney theme (for instance, a My Computer icon with Mickey ears), and a Mac-like icon dock displays several of these original graphics.

The keyboard deck shares the same matte finish as the lid. It contains a full-size keyboard with Chiclet keys and a dedicated number pad.
